Home Remedies for Strep Throat

Most people who develop a sore throat quickly all fear the same thing. They worry that they’ve caught strep throat. If this is the case, a trip to the doctor is essential as the only true cure for strep throat is prescribed medication in the form of antibiotics. In addition to that, there are some home remedies for strep throat that can ease the pain and uncomfortable feeling.

It can be incredibly difficult to swallow almost anything when you are suffering from this illness. One of the best remedies for strep throat pain is to drink warm fluids. You don’t want to try drinking a very hot cup of coffee as this can actually cause more pain. It’s suggested that chamomile tea is truly one of the best remedies for strep throat. A cup a few times a day can really help alleviate some of the pain.

As much as you want to drink warm fluids there are some foods and beverages that you’d do well to avoid. Some individuals believe that all fluids are good remedies for strep throat. However, trying to drink a carbonated beverage isn’t recommended. This can actually irritate the delicate, inflamed tissues in your throat and cause an even more uncomfortable feeling.

Your choice of foods should also be adjusted until you are feeling well again. Trying to eat crackers, cookies or anything else that is crunchy or hard isn’t a good idea. Instead turn to soft foods or liquids such as soup. These make good remedies for strep throat as they are easy to swallow and help you keep your strength up.

Sleep is always recommended when you are feeling under the weather and fighting an infection like strep is no exception. Rest is certainly one of the advised remedies for strep throat. Although some individuals find it difficult to stay in bed, getting extra rest can speed the recovery process considerably.

Steam is also suggested when it comes to helping with healing quicker. If the person who is suffering takes a warm bath or shower it’s a good idea to close the door to trap the steam in. Steam when used as one of the remedies for strep throat can help moisturize the tissues that are infected in the throat. It’s even a good idea to simply turn on the tub and sit in the room while the hot water runs creating steam.

Although a doctor will give a person suffering with this illness the best advice, trying a few quick tricks at home can make a huge difference in how the patient feels.
